The third wave of COVID-19, largely driven by the Omicron variant, is on the decline in the country.

The daily COVID-19 cases declined below 10,000 on Sunday, for the first time since December 28. The cumulative cases in the week ending Sunday were reported to have dropped below the figure reported in the first week of the current wave.

The country registered a little more than 86,000 new infections in the week from February 21-27, which is lower than the figure of 1.3 lakh cases reported in the first week of the current wave, from December 27 to January 2. This is the first time in nine weeks that the weekly cases have dropped below 1 lakh.
